I've been meaning to post this for a couple months. My mom and I took a mini-road trip this summer, and spent 5 great days in Asheville in July. I scoured this board for a couple months leading up to our trip for ideas of where to eat, and I have to thank all of you for your great suggestions. (My mom lives near Philadelphia and I'm in Brooklyn, NY -- we take a trip together every year, usually focusing on some combination of food and architecture.)
Our first night in town (after a LONG day of driving), we just popped into town from our B&B and had an amazing dinner at Early Girl. My mom is still talking about the meatloaf, and I had the trout with blackberry-cabernet sauce, which was amazing.
We spent the first two days on the Biltmore Estate, which I didn't see much about on here, but we had two really great meals at the Bistro at the Winery.
Our other culinary experiences included:
Tupelo Honey (best fried green tomatoes and grits EVER)
Cucina 24 (absolutely delicious)
Sante Wine Bar (we had some wine while we waited out some rain -- nice little spot)
Corner Kitchen (for lunch -- great burger!)
Malaprop's (for yummy coffee drinks and muffins)
But, the highlight of our meals was HANDS DOWN 12 Bones. We got take-out on Friday at lunchtime and then took it back to our B&B, where we reheated it for dinner later that night. The ribs (Blueberry Chipotle and Jalapeno Peach) were awesome, I LOVED my pulled pork, and the corn pudding was simply to die for. We also had picked up some great tomatoes at the WNC Farmer's Market (it was Watermelon Day), and polished off the most tender peaches from there for dessert. It was a meal that I will remember for a long long time.
We had such a great trip to Asheville -- it truly is a great little town. I hope to make it back some day!
