Asheville: The new Old Europe

Yuck. What a waste of a fabulous space. I had always thought the pastries were bad at the former location (although the coffee good), and never understood why it was so busy.

The new location is fab, and the menu of appetizers looks pretty darn good...so we tried it Saturday.

Shrimp in proscuitto: nasty shrimp overwhelmed any taste of ham, if there was any. There was a teaspoon of the advertised salsa.

Mozzerella stack: rubbery. The tomato salsa/compote/whatever wasn't bad, but not enough to make up for the scary cheese.

Wine list: Very limited by-the-glass choices, with the exception of the special "roses of summer". I thought that was nice...the glass I had was pretty good, although $6.75 got me about 2 1/2 oz....it looked like the pour you get in a restaurant that offers 1/2 glasses.

Such a shame.
