New Asha

A friend of mine got all excited about the New Asha Cafe being rated #1 on Robert Sietsema's list of Asian restaurants in New York, so we ventured out there.
Overall, I'd say that the food was good, but hardly the #1 Asian in New York.
The curries are complex and lightly spicy (dining companions said very spicy).
The eggplant was exceptional, with many layers of flavor.
The okra was dry and not very flavorful. Of course, it is pretty early for okra, so it was probably frozen.
The appetizers were fairly dry and greasy. I didn't care too much for them.
I'd say that New Asha is good, but I'm not sure that it is worth the trek to Staten Island unless you live there.
