Had seen mention of this a while ago and noticed it on my recent trips out to Hyde Park. Mostly takeout, three little tables with CNN on TV, no one else was there. I got a small chicken curry w/ rice and beans ($5.99) to go figuring it would be dished up and I'd be gone. Little did I know it was cooked to order w/ nice chunks of chicken breast, peppers, onions and mushrooms. I got a beef pattie to munch on while waiting ($1.25) that was pretty tasty. After a little while, the chef and his son ? plated it up (I had to stop him from putting more rice in) and it smelled delicious in the car. It was good altho the spicing had a bit of a feel of the packet from a rice pilaf mix to me. They've got quite a few seafood, beef, chicken and pork dishes (altho they don't carry conch anymore he told me) plus some American sandwiches, $2.99-$10.99. They also serve breakfast. 984 Hyde Park Ave.

Had actually wanted to try Fontaine's fried chicken before they close (VFW Pkwy, W. Roxbury, closing next Wed.) but it was too crowded. They've gotten slagged here but I wanted to give it a shot before it goes (it smelled good at least) and had to take a picture of the chicken out front. But the hostess made it sound like the shit had hit the fan there, the mgr left, they're not having the party mentioned in the Globe food section, etc., so it may not be up to par (if there is a par) with things falling apart in their last days. I feel bad for never trying an institution tho.

Non food related: I was psyched to find my way from W. Rox. to Roslindale to Hyde Park without going back into JP, a first.
