This is the talented guy who created wonderful food as exec chef at Wilshire in Santa Monica for a long time (he left early last year), and who was also nominated for James Beard awards a few years in a row, so I've been VERY eagerly anticipating his new restaurant, Tar and Roses, which will be in Santa Monica at the corner of 6th and Santa Monica Blvd. I walked by yesterday morning (after my weekly visit to the SM farmers market) and noticed major deliveries of food staples and kitchenware arriving. At least from the boxes I could see, everything was of very high quality -- the oils, vinegars, charcuterie, cheeses, flour, spices and many other interesting condiments, as well as top grade All-Clad cookware. Just like at Wilshire, it doesn't look like he's going to be cutting any corners here either. After it's all put away and organized, and after whatever pre-opening events have been planned, I'm guessing he'll open sometime within the next week or two. I can't wait!!!
