Alto Palato Disappointment

Alto Palato has been reviewed so favorably on these boards...but I was so disappointed with dinner last night that I'm sure we'll never be back. It started out fairly well, with a delicious shaved artichoke salad dressed with lemon and olive oil, and a decent proscuitto and melon appetizer. But the entrees--a macaroni, ground meat, and ricotta salata for my husband and the margherita pizza for me--were nothing more than mediocre. I couldn't believe after all the raves I'd read about the pizza (and the crust was, admittedly, very good) they didn't even use fresh mozzarella...such a letdown.

Since moving here from NY in April (where I was addicted to the superlative Italian at Babbo, Lupa, and host of smaller joints like Bar Pitti, Sandros, Frank and Max), the only Italian I'd actually feel comfortable recommending out here is Angelini Osteria. Can't believe someone hasn't imported one of those fantastic NY trattorias already--they'd make a fortune...
