Almaty, Kazakhstan - Kazakh favourites at the Brasserie, Hotel Rixos Almaty.

klyeoh | Dec 6, 201410:40 PM

Final evening in snowy Almaty before I fly back to the tropics. In contrast to its breakfast and lunch buffets, the Brasserie at the luxurious Rixos Almaty provides an interesting menu of Italian and local Kazakh choices at dinner-time. This evening I opted for Kazakh, of course:

- Kecne: slivers of beef, delicate wheat noodles, potatoes and carrots in a light consomme.

- Kuyrdak: the traditional Kazakh dish of stewed horse-meat, mutton, liver, kidney and potatoes, thickened with yoghurt & topped with chopped fresh scallions. The flavours were strong and very assertive.

Friendly, competent service at this hotel, which is part of a Turkish-owned hotel chain.
