adding sour cream to sauce

I have a recipe that calls for stirring sour cream into a hot -- but not boiling -- sauce but I've never figured out how to keep the sour cream from breaking. I read the recent thread about how to add yogurt to sauce and wonder if corn starch would work for sour cream too, or if there's something else I should do. Thanks, experts.
