so last night i was down in red hook and we decided to check this place out. we went with friends, so we were easily able to try everything on the menu. this place offers a $20 prix-fixe and i think they are only open several nights a week with a very limited menu. there were three apps- a fiddlehead salad, p.e.i. mussels in aromatic broth, and broiled scallops with asparagus and a beet reduction. the broth for the mussels was amazing, a bit creamier than i am used to, but perfect for dipping. definitely aromatic. i had the scallops which were perfectly grilled- still tender but with a slight crust on the outside, and delicious with the beet juice. i didn't get to taste the salad, but that looked delicious as well. for the mains there was a filet of dorade with ratatouille and a hangar steak with a side of spinach and oyster mushrooms and thinly sliced potatoes. i had the dorade, and which was delicious, cooked so the edges were crispy. the ratatouille was good, but i have had better. my bf had the hangar steak, which was very tender and a great cut of meat. the spinach and mushroom side was incredible. for desserts they offered a tarte tatin with a dollop of creme fraiche and a creme brulee. i had the creme brulee, which was good, but the tarte tatin paired with the creme fraiche was a real standout. the creme fraiche was like perfectly tart with the warm apples...mmmm.
it was a cute place and the owner was very attentive, and suggested wine to pair with the entrees. you could do worse for the price, too.
