For my taste, this event was waaaaay too office lunch Manhattan-centric last year -- Sainted Arepa Lady, and Sunset Park Tamales Lady were nowhere to be found. So nominate already!
here's part of what came in my email this am...
"Rolf Babiel, who cooks traditional German wurst on 54th Street and 5th Avenue, took home top prize at last year's Vendy Awards.
To nominate a vendor, buy tickets, or read press from last year's event, go to www.streetvendor.org.
The Vendys are a fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, a membership-based organization of more than 500 New York City street vendors from all backgrounds. We believe that vendors, who are a hallmark of New York, have the right to be free from harassment by store owners, security guards, and police. We seek a city where our smallest of small businesses (vendors) have an equal chance as the huge corporations that have successfully lobbied to drive us off many streets. We believe that all vendors deserve respect and recognition equal to their enormous contribution to our city. That is why we hold the Vendy Awards. Please come. "
