100 Steps Supper Club- Bizarre Experience

sockster | Nov 26, 201405:18 AM

Went recently. Excellent waitstaff, and great looking restaurant. Things started well with excellent oysters (with fabulous mignonette), and perfect jumbo shrimp cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce. These were great starters and we were excited for dinner. Scallop ceviche was terrific! Different than normal ceviche flavors and great.

Next out were our small plate courses: brocollini, came out so salty we had to send it back. They brought out homemade rolls which were out of this world good. A small plate of skirt steak was ok, nothing to write home about...

Our mains were next: CORZETTI, which was a pasta dish with octopus, and their whole bronzino. Both dishes came out so salty we just couldn't eat them. They were kind enough to take them back, and asked us if we wanted anything else instead. We said no and looked forward to dessert. Instead, the manager brought us a check. We said we didn't ask for the check yet, and she replied, "well you said you didn't want anything else". It was replacement mains we were talking about, and she knew that.

We ordered their caramel banana pudding for dessert, and it was fabulous as was the cookie on the side.

So dinner was very uneven; some really good things, and some really over salted things. We asked for the check. The manager showed up again, and said, "since you hated everything there is no check"! Well, that's just not true, and we never portrayed that we hated anything. If the kitchen sends out over salted food, is that our fault? We left our excellent server $20 and left.

When I got home, I received an email from Open Table that 100 Steps cancelled our reservation. Did they not want this negative review to appear on the Open Table web site? Bizarre experience!
