Start your St. Patrick's Day off with kohlrabi-topped shepherd's pie.
In one way, this shepherd's pie is more traditional than the more common beef versions, because lamb. There really are a lot of those creatures, plus their elders, the sheep, grazing the rolling greens of the Emerald Isle. But then, the recipe is less traditional too. Part of the turnip family, Kohlrabi stands in for the potato topping. It's arguably healthier and more flavorful than the regular potato version. Dry red wine gives the meal some depth. Lamb has its own unique flavor, and then you still get those traditional diced carrots and peas.
