Like Cracker Jack, Pabst beer was first brewed long before the 1893 World's Fair, but it was there that the light American lager was awarded the prize for best beer—which inspired them to add “Blue Ribbon” to their name. Since then, PBR may have gained a reputation as the beer of choice for college students, broke dive bar patrons, hipsters, and broke dive bar patronizing hipsters (was that redundant?), but it still sports its iconic blue ribbon, and has won gold as recently as 2016.
