Excellence. Passion. Achievement. Facial Hair.
The CHOW Beard Foundation Awards* shine a spotlight on the best and hairiest talent in the food and beverage industry.
1. MOST AWESOME BRUTAL BEARD AWARD
Adam Lamoreaux – Linden Street Brewery
There was no contest for this category, given that Adam’s beard’s appearance on video provoked comments like, “for some odd reason.I wanna shrink my self real small, and climb his EPIC beard…”
2. DUO OF POWER
The Franks – Frankies Spuntino
It was a close vote between the Franks and Brooklyn beardination duo the Mast Brothers, but the Franks’ famous meatballs put them over the edge.
3. MOST GROOMED GOATEE
Fabio Viviani – Firenze Osteria
Who could forget the season 5 Top Chef contestant’s meticulously styled goatee, which bested the other meticulously groomed former Top Chef contestant Erik Hopfinger’s sinister ‘tee (from season 4).
4. THE SILVER FOX LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Hubert Keller – Fleur de Lys
The star of our controversial You’re Doing It All Wrong hamburger video has long committed to the art of the beard, and we salute him for it.
5. SOULFULEST SOUL PATCH
Tom Colicchio – craft restaurants
Michael Symon was hard to beat, but Colicchio has owned the shaved-head-and-soul-patch look for so long it’s become iconic.
6. FRIENDLY FULL-BEARD AWARD
Kevin Gillespie – Woodfire Grill
Gillespie had some tough competition from Austin’s kindly bearded butchers Jesse Griffiths and Bryan Butler, but he edged them out with his fiery-red face locks.
*Note: For amusement only. Not an actual award nor a foundation. CHOW is not responsible for awarded parties shaving their beards off. Beards are sweet.
