Melanie Wong is impressed with the sweet little varietal pineapple called piña miel, or honey pineapple, grown in Veracruz, Mexico. This little pineapple is heavy for its size, fully ripe, and bursting with juice if you catch it in season—-and its season, apparently, is right now. It’s as sweet as honey, as promised, with intense flavor and deeply yellow-colored flesh. Look for it in Hispanic groceries. Melanie buys hers for about $1.49 each.
