Just like anything, weddings and their lavish cakes are subject to waxing trends and waning fads. Though traditional wedding cakes still have an undeniable charm, we all love to see what fun wedding cake trends are emerging (or submerging) each year. Thanks to Google, who divulged the most searched-for wedding cakes in the U.S. so far in 2019, we’re able to peer directly into the minds of would-be brides, grooms, and wedding planners (and a few mothers-of-the-bride for certain) as they plot and plan their custom matrimonial confections.

The 2019 list of wedding cake trends includes a few we’ve seen before—like cupcake cakes—along with a few new and niche additions like Hawaiian and sunflower wedding cakes. Simple, naked, rustic, and small all land on the list, perhaps signaling a moratorium on those massive, over-the-top, themed fondant creations, but the list of 10 wedding cake search terms has a bit of everything.

Here are the 10 most-searched wedding cakes in the U.S. this year:

Both rustic and elegant, “naked wedding cakes”—meaning cakes that are only partially frosted or not at all—took the #1 slot and are definitely en vogue if you open any bridal magazine (or Instagram for that matter). “Simple wedding cakes” take the #2 slot while “Italian wedding cakes”—which generally involve coconut flakes and crushed pineapple rounds out the top 3.
