Cherries and brandy are natural companions for classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned, but here a little Dubonnet rouge lends a touch of spice.
What to buy: Dubonnet blanc and rouge are wine-based liqueurs flavored with spices. The dark red (rouge) version is sweet and rather rich; it can be found at most high-end liquor stores.

- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 2 ounces brandy
- 1/2 ounce Dubonnet rouge
- 2 dashes orange bitters
