I did a search and haven't found a whole lot of recent posts on this place, so here we go. Went there with a friend not too long ago, was immediately awed by the decor - serene and beautiful. Loved the maze-like setup and semi-private booths. The menu looked great and was able to order in Japanese, kinda cool. We ordered maguro carpaccio, potato mochi, seafood gratin, tsukune (chicken meatball) and I'm forgetting a couple of items. Maybe my expectation was too high, but I didn't find any of the dishes we ordered to be excellent, they were OK at best. Maguro carpaccio was over-saturated with dressing, didn't detect any uni flavor in seafood gratin, etc. Desserts were pretty good though.
Now the question is - did we order wrong? What's your favorite dish at Zenkichi? I absolutely loved the decor and the ambiance so I want to go back, this time with my husband (perfect for a date, I thought) but I'm hesitant because food didn't impress me. I'm willing to give it a second chance though, but I'd like to be armed with some recs from trusty 'hounds. Bueller?
