New Zen Grill in Westwood

paddy | Oct 8, 200310:51 AM

Thumbs up for the new Zen Grill in Westwood (on Broxton, just south of the movie theaters).
I've never been to the other locations, so I had no idea what to expect. I was told the food was pretty reasonable, so I imagined something quite basic in terms of decor etc.
So I was very surprised by the feeling of luxury in this place. Dark wood paneling and furniture, comfortable chairs and couches; tall drapes that section the areas off, all lit with muted lighting and candles.
The service was impeccable - very attentive, and the food and drinks were very reasonable. $4.50 for a beer (no hard liquor license) and $10 for good Singapore noodles. There's a long list of sake and sushi, but the latter looked a bit over-wrought to me. I can't remember the rest of the prices, but they didn't do too much damage to the Irish wallet. Interesting goi cuon made with tuna; good chicken jiaoze; tasty green curry and very substantial, spicy chicken satay.
Another arrow in Westwood's quiver as the Village tries to claw itself up to the standards of the surrounding neighborhoods. Now if they'd only sort the parking situation.
