A business meeting in Eagle Rock had us lunching at Zelo's Pizza in Arcadia. We'd been wanting to try this place since J. Gold included it on last year's Ten Best List. The famed cornmeal crust is quite good with the corn, mozzarella and caramelized onion pizza being our favorite. A surprising cucumber and red onion salad with a lot of tarragon was a nice accompaniement. $18 for two before tip.
Driving through West Hollywood we stopped when the awning for Bin 8945 caught our eye. We're glad we did. Although not hungry we tried chef Matt Carpenter's gorgonzola fritters for $6 and marveled at the 60 plus wines by the glass. This place is serious and seriously fun. They will serve until 2am, closed on Mondays. If our brief encounter is any indication Bin 8945 could, along with Hatfield's, be the surprise hit of the year. Blue Ribbon comes to West Hollywood.
