Zcaveche, new Peruvian in Excelsior

deelish | Dec 21, 200412:14 PM

Went to this place for a first run a couple days ago and will certainly be back. Interior is very bright orange, but also warm and friendly, due to the very hard working staff who are trying to please. The wait staff was harried, but did not falter and the chef/owner? came around and welcomed every table. They have only been opened about 2 months.

A mixed seafood ceviche was just the way I like it, very fresh fish with major lime. It came with smooth chunks of sweet potato, and 3 sauces that enhanced each bite, hot, creamy and herby. I thought this was excellent and better than Alma and Yankee Pier's versions.

A chicken tamale was huge, presented open on a banana leaf. the flavoring was good, but the texture was a bit dry. You can certainly get better tamales.

Half a roast chicken was tender and moist with good crispy skin, came with large cut potatoes strips that were decent. Price with beverages and tip was $40. for 2. A nice addition to the neighborhood!
