I've noticed quite a bit of anti-Zagat sentiment on this website and was wondering why everyone is so negative about it...Although it doesn't always cover the little holes-in-the wall and specifics about dishes, it does provide decently reliable ratings about restaurants. I have found their "bangs for the buck" section useful and think that the descriptions, while often annoyingly pithy and cheesy, do give you a good impression of the restaurant..ie whether it is a place where food is all that's important (no decor), a place to be seen, etc. Can someone explain to me the main issues with it?
Also, went to Gennaro (93rd and Amsterdam) for dinner last night. This place is damn good. They had nearly 8 specials and there was so much good stuff, it was hard to choose. I ended up getting the potato-goat cheese-mushroom tart with beets, and homemade cavatelli pasta with lamb ragout, artichokes, and tomatoes. Definitely recommend it.
