Zaffiro's in Milwaukee - Woodman's in Kenosha

Sweet Willie | May 5, 200301:33 PM

thanks much to fellow midwest chowhounds who have sung the praises of Zaffiro's!

drove up to Milwaukee from Chicago last evening to take my nephew (who is going to Marquette U) and two of his buddies to Zaffiro's for some pizza.

Zaffiro's did not dissappoint. From decor to the quality of the food, just tops. Crust was thin and very crisp, good tasty sauce and decent sausage.

The college kids were amazed at how good the pizza was.
An eye-opening experience as they usually get Pizza Hut pizza.

After dropping the boys back at Marquette, I headed south on 94 back home. Decided to stop at Woodman's in Kenosha.

While I can see why one would like Woodman's, I was personally not thrilled as it seems the product buyers at Woodman's simply called the major manufacturers of food items and told them to send in whatever they manufacture. I did not find many independent brands of grocery items.

The produce section was lacking IMO, I expected more exotic fruits.

The meat prices were so-so, not great.

But of course that did not stop my from bringing home about $60 worth of goods, including my 2.5# box of brats, mojo criollo marinade, bitter orange, Craisins (wife eats 1/2 a bag a day and a bag was $1 less than in Chicago), mole, a kringle, and other misc items.
