Yummy Dinner at Lazy Ox Canteen

We ended up being 45 minutes late for our reservation but with a phone call ahead to warn of our delay, they held our table. It is always difficult to choose what to order at Lazy Ox because there are so many chalkboard specials (small plates) and they are always changing. Great glass of Pinot Noir to start and then...For appetizers we chose:
Carmelized cauliflower with chile, mint, pine nuts: great garlic flavor, cooked just past al dente +
Soft poached egg with cured lemon, quinoa and crispy pork belly: there is a mad scientist in that kitchen and he knows what he is doing. A perfectly poached egg on top of perfectly cooked quinoa, perfectly crisp pork belly, and tart lemon flavor to cut through all of the perfectness. In a word: PERFECT! I wanted to lick the plate. Our mains:
7 oz Lazy Ox Burger: A nicely medium rare cooked burger, toasted bun, cantal cheese, whole grain mustard, and a yummy aioli. The fries were thick, piping hot, and laced with dill. I like this burger and have had it many times before. Always good beefy flavor. We also had...
Milk braised veal breast: I can't suggest this enough. The pre-soaking of the breast in milk makes it oh so tender after cooking. If you like veal, this is it, nice, thick, and tasty. Topped with a veal reduction, it was served with sliced mushrooms with just a little sherry, creamy polenta, a bit of sauteed kale, and some snap peas. I returned an empty plate and urged the waitress to offer to everyone.
Dessert was butterscotch pudding with carmel sauce and creme fresh. Not as good as the Mozza budino version but still very good. A little french press coffee from LA Mill and viola! Great atmosphere and prompt attentive service like always...$83 before tip. BOO YAH!
