Hi, myself and my gf are heading to New York for 3 nights in the 1st week of March. We are both very passionate about food and want to experience NY food at it's best. We are staying near Herald Square.
We are on a budget however and I've lined out a plan of where to go with that in mind. I was wondering if you could give me your opinions of these places and maybe suggest others that might be better for people hoping to get the best examples of NY cuisine.
RED EGG for dim-sum in Chinatown. Red Egg as we won't be in town until the afternoon on our first day.
DAISY MAYS - was going to head here on the afternoon of the 2nd day. We are planning on going to a show so we wanted to get a substantial meal in. We are dying to try proper BBQ too. Given it's location and fro what I've read this seems like the place to go?
SKYLIGHT DINER - we want to go to a diner for a nice breakfast/ brunch. Would this be one of the best?
BALTHAZAR - I was in NY with family a few years back and we went here. I loved it and so would like to take the gf here.
KATZ - I was hoping to get the famous Pastrami sandwich on the day we leave for lunch. Is this the place to go?
SCREME/ L'ARTE DE GELATO - Wanted to fins some really nice gelato and keep seeing these names coming up.
BILLY'S BAKERY - for Pie, cookies, cakes etc
Please let me know what you think of my choices and please suggest any alternatives. Bear in mind the price range and the fact we are looking for classic (and probably stereotypical!) NY places.
