New York Times article on Sichuan Peppercorns

I came across an article in the NY Times this morning which outlined the history of the ban on Sichuan peppercorns and the current crackdown on importation.

I found it interesting that the ban has been in place since 1968, but only enforced for the past two years. There also has been no verifiable case of the spice carrying the canker to a citrus tree in the US.
