Yo Ho - Chinese Cantonese Restaurant in Oakland Chinatown (Report)

Han Lukito | Apr 30, 200204:51 PM

I think I got the name correctly - it's on 8th st (Webster is the nearest cross st).

As I mentioned, Oakland Chinatown has many Chinese restaurants that I seldom heard any reviews on. So, I braved myself and tried this place that had a Grand Opening sign. There were 4 of us there. The place is quite big in size, easily fits 100 people or more. In the back, there were fish tanks filled with all kinds of live seafood.

I ordered a lobster dish which was on sale for $18.00 for two. I saw the cook took them out of the tank - they were medium sized lobsters. The lobsters were properly cooked and it comes with the usual chinese lobster sauce (thickened egg based sauce). This dish is good.

Oyster with eggs: this is not the usual version I found at other places. The oyster were chopped small and mixed in with the beaten eggs and fried. Quite tasty.

String beans with minced pork: the usual version although I find the minced pork a bit too salty.

Claypot rice with chicken and chinese sausage: this dish took half hour to cook. It was not worth the time. There were only few chinese sausage slices and not enough flavor and moisture. I had much better version at other places.

Anybody else tried this place or nearby places and pls let us know good dishes that you found ?

There are numerous other restaurants and a lot of them are packed with chinese customers. I will report them one by one.
