Yiannis? And an Update on Minerva

Fine | Apr 30, 200306:05 AM     4

Has anyone been to Yiannis, on Church?

I think I was there a long, long time ago and have no idea if it's the same ownership. My vague memory is not too favorable.

I stopped by Minerva today. The owner--or one of--the guy from the place in the 'loin, seemed remarkably indifferent about when the opening would occur. Maybe that's the secret of his longevity? (g) Or maybe that's Greek. Anyway, he said he was waiting for the licence to come through. When I asked to see a menu, well, he was waiting for the menus too.

He assured me there would be music and dancing and "lots of fun," but that was sometime in the future--maybe next week, maybe not--and little solace to those of us who'd planned to eat there after an early movie tomorrow night.

He told me he opened the place because he owned the building, the earthquake having irreparably damaged the previous restaurant. Only 13 1/2 years ago!
