xiolong bao and shanghai Chi Tsai wonton - Northern Pasta House

It's been about 6 months the Northern Pasta House had shut it's door on 40 rd between Prince and Main. Only two days ago did I find out that they've relocated to 41 Rd, just off of Main street, inside the Golden Market grocery store(41-28 Main street, enter on 41 rd). I paid them a visit and saw the delicate featured woman, who recognized me. Their xiolong bao is listed as "small Buns" on the menu. This is a thin mantou dough shaped like a small steamed bun filled with pork. It is quite juicy inside although it's not soup dumpling. $2 for 5. I don't know of anywhere else who makes them like this.

Another dish they offer that's quite good is the Chi Tsai wonton soup. On the menu it is listed as "Big Wonton Soup" for $3. One would never have guessed from the name that it is with large wonton shaped like a yuen2 bao3 (ancient Chinese shape for gold and silver pieces, filled with tons of the collard green - like vegetable called Chi Tsai and a trace amount of ground meat. It's the best of its kind I've had.

In this new location, the Northern Pasta House share the space with the Fujianese stand. One of our group ordered the "Noodle w. Meat Sauce", $2, from the Fujian menu. Very savory.

While I'm on the subject of relocation, for those who misses Fortune Gourmet's shaved ice, their people can be found in the Mayflower Plaza mini-mall, on Main street Near 41st ave(Not to be confused with 41 Rd). Still the best Taiwanese shaved ice around.
