Worthwhile Boston dining with a view?

MC Slim JB | Dec 9, 2004 01:18 PM

I'm trying to dissuade a loved one from hosting a company holiday dinner at a place with a nice view. I contend that, in general, restaurants with nice views tend to suck.

For example, the Top of the Hub is middling to terrible, with horrible service, and expensive to boot. A chain outlet like the Chart House isn't awful, but it's far poorer than the best local seafood places.

There are exceptions: Meze Estiatorio has a great view of the Zakim (from some tables), and is very good. Meritage. Maybe Aujourd'hui (though I haven't been back since the redo.)

It's no surprise, right? Views imply premium real estate, and folks will forgive poor food quality and service if the vista is swoony enough.

So: What Boston-area places with a good view deliver the best all-around experience for the buck?
