Woodman's Supermarket

A piece of news that is exciting out here in the sticks.

Woodmans Supermarket is opening in Algonquin on Randall Road on Friday. For those of you unaware of what a Woodmans store is like, let me give you some of the details.

The stores are 250,000 square feet or the size of 5-6 normal grocery stores. They do NOT accept credit cards and I don't believe that they accept checks.

They have one of the largest selections of various foods that you will ever find. They don't carry a lot of fancy items but they do carry a wide selection of various foods.

For example, most groceries will carry two or three national brands of breads and their store brand. Woodmans will carry the national brands and maybe every regional brand and bread from local bakeries.

There is nothing real fancy. It is a warehouse format. Their prices are generally better than Jewel or Dominicks (like whose aren't).

I have to wonder one thing. In the past couple years, the following stores have opened on Randall: a large Walmart with a lot of groceries (but not a Supercenter), a Target with a grocery store (very poor selection), Meijer's ... The real question is how long Dominicks and Cub can last in that area.
