Woodley Park dining - why so underwhelming?

David Hoffman | Mar 30, 2005 08:42 AM

Just moved into the Woodley Park area from California, and having tried a couple of the establishments around here, I have to say that we (my girlfriend and I) have been thoroughly *underwhelmed*. Granted, we've only been to a few places, but so far what we've found is:

Trattoria Italiana -- absolutely execrable service.

Taverna Lebanese -- highly over-hyped and over-rated (but maybe that's because we've spent significant amount of time in the Middle East, eating mountains of great Lebanese food for pennies)

Woodley Cafe -- fairly standard.

Cafe International -- less than zero on the charm/ambiance scale (somebody should walk the owner across the bridge and show him Tryst)

OK, so we haven't even tried half the places here, but -- help!? Any suggestions?
