I have my favorites in Fresno when I visit every two months or so. Last week, an amazing meal at THE CHEF'S TABLE @ The Elbow Room. Actually, I disliked The Elbow Room on two previous visits (noisy room, snearly service), but The Chef's Table was special this time:
Started with crabcakes. Deelish and the wine steward happened by with a dry California Muscat that was fragrant and just right! I never would have ordered this wine without his prodding.
Next, one of the finest presentations of 1/2 Chicken Pressed Under A Brick that I have ever had. I love this dish anywhere and have had it in NYC, Philadelphia, Boston and even at Omera in Florence Italy. The best is in Fresno! And for just $19! The wine guy came around with an earthy, somewhat odd Cotes De Rhone that matched perfectly. I was so happy that I ate in slow motion, savored every bite and sip, and ordered neither coffee or dessert. (I ordered a la carte.)
This was a truly memorable meal that goes into the Vinny Clams Hall of Fame.
