Wondee Siam

MAH | Jun 1, 2005 01:27 PM

I hadn't been to Wondee (the original on the east side of 9th Ave. at 52nd or 53rd) in a few months. I went back today for lunch and it was as good as ever -- terrific actually.

I ordered the Kee Mao with ground pork and asked that it be prepared spicy. The waitress looked at me, smiling, and said "very spicy?" "yes!" I happily accepted. The Kee Mao is listed on the menu as prepared only with chicken (Pad Kee Mao), however they seemed happy to comply with my off-menu request for ground pork (a la Sripraphai).

It was fantastic!!! Mouth-searingly hot, but with a complex depth of spicing -- robustly flavored with chilis, basil and garlic and with a generous amount of chinese broccoli (just the bitter greens) mixed in. I will now crave this dish and will make it a point to request it every time i go back.
