Won Ton Ramen @ Ramen Club, Burlingame

Recently I made a return visit to Ramen Club for lunch. I sneaked in just before the 2pm closing time. As indicated by the number of cars parked outside, the place was as popular as ever and nearly full even at the end of lunch.

This time I tried the won ton ramen lunch set that comes with deep-fried gyoza. The gyoza were a non-event, filled with mostly mushy cabbage and scallions and little character. The only reason to order these is to get the spicy dipping sauce to season the won tons.

The won ton ramen was made with the shio (salt flavor) stock. I liked the shio much better than the first time we tried it. (linked below) It was round and soothing in the way that only good chicken soup can be. The stock wasn't very salty and a bit of the gyoza dipping sauce added to the bowl perked things up. The won ton dumplings were plentiful, but as boring as the gyoza with more veggie than pork taste. The noodles started off chewy but turned too soft as they soaked up the hot stock. The fresh spinach and the wakame toppings were first rate.

Even though it can't touch the top ramen-yas, this was a good enough performance to raise Ramen Club's ranking to #17 from #23.
