For those who are not familiar with this Japanese Sushi restaurant in Old Town Pasadena, it closed this week for good.
While it is no where on the level of haute sushi cuisine, it was a fun place to go, especially during happy hour. The rolls were decent, if not pushing the envelope of what fusion cusine was meant to be. These were big, submarine like projectiles that were often a mish-mash of what seemed like kitchen spare parts -- dogpiled upon each other to create a gastronomic bomb of flavors and textures. My favorite was the Bob Marley Roll, a combination of jerk salmon, deep fried banana all wrapped in a bodacious pink wrapper.
But, above all, the atmosphere was easy going and friendly. If the bar in the NBC Cheers sitcom served sushi and chinese food, I'd imagine it'd be like Wok n Roll.
