Wine Country Help...

TributaryATL | Dec 19, 2009 12:04 PM

I just booked a trip to Wine Country for Mid-March and I am giving it to my wife for Christmas...

While I have spent alot of time in the Bay Area, I (nor has she) have not been to Wine Country other than a 1/2 day about 10 years ago. We are a young 30-something couple with no kids and enjoy great service and quality places to eat. We drink alot of Red Wines (me / Merlot & her / Pinor)...a couple of bottles a week...but don't know alot about the wines we drink.

I have rooms booked at Bardessono in Yountville (www.bardessono.com) which looks great and they were great to work with in setting up the room.

We are flying into SFO on a Wednesday and will be in Wine Country Wed, Thurs and Fri night before returning to San Fran on Saturday for the night then leaving Sunday afternoon.

My questions:

1) What are better wineries to visit? Looking for quality and also not the typical, full of tourist spots....

2) I have seen all the different places to eat and thoughts in the threads but wanted to get some thoughts on a great spot for coffee/breakfast? Casual lunch spot? And a couple of good local bars that we can end the night with a good lively bar scene...

3) In San Fran, we are staying at the Renaissance Stanford Court on Saturday night and want to find a great spot for dinner...Italian food would be perfect....and a great spot for coffee/breakfast before we catch the flight home

Thanks in advance...have always enjoyed reading Chowhound reviews/thoughts and this is my first post...look forward to helping any of those coming to the Southeast as I spend most of my life on the road...need help in Atlanta, Nashville, Orlando, Dallas...I can help!
