I chose the Wine Cask for our anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. I loved the smallish, intimate feel that the dining room portrays when you walk in and the warm fire going was very nice.
We were immediately seated and the waitress asked if we would to speak with the Sommelier. We said yes and he arrived at our table with a wealth of information and spent lots of time with us. He suggested that we taste until we get it "just right." I wanted something white to go with the Seared Ahi. He brought out a very nice white with a bit of sparkle to it. Reminded me of a Muller-Thargau when I commented on that, he said I had a very good palate, which I guess was a compliment.
Not what I was looking for, he then brought out a couple of local Sauv Blancs and one from New Zealand that was just right. I loved it! He also brought out a $50/bottle of Viognier that he let us taste as we were inquiring about some that we had recently purchased. I just loved the wine education that came with our meal.
We decided on the Boston Lettuce Salad to share. A salad of grilled portabello mushrooms, cambozola and pomegranate seeds with a vinaigrette dressing. A very nice salad that was gladly put on two plates for us.
I decided on the Seared Peppercorn Crusted Ahi which is seared rare and served with a ginger risotto stir fried veggies and a ponzu sauce with spicy sesame oil drops. This entee was amazing! The sommelier suggested it and he was spot on. Throughout the meal, he checked and kept asking if we were comfortable and enjoying everything which I really appreciated.
My DH chose the Grilled Black Angus Filet Mignon with Carmalized onion and potato puree, roasted autumn vegetables and a sauce duxelies. He enjoyed it very, very much also. I didn't have a taste, but it looked very good.
For dessert, I had the Vanilla Bean Chevre Cheesecake with a morello cherry sauce that was excellent. My dessert was complimentary and Happy Anniversary was written out in chocolate syrup.
DH had the dark chocolate cake with white chocolate coffee mousse which he said was very good, also. The Wine Cask made the perfect special occasion dinner for us and the special attention the Sommelier provided made it really nice. I will definitely return to this wonderful restaurant. ***kim***
