White trumpet mushrooms at Marin Farmers Market

Stanley Stephan | May 11, 200303:57 PM

OK, just took a quick spin around while visiting a friend. However, the mushroom guy had these beautiful 2 - 3 inch white mushrooms that I've never seen before called trumpet mushrooms. They are not golden trumpet mushrooms, they are not black trumpet mushrooms.

Has anyone tried these? How do you use them? I'm not posting this on the general board because I'm hoping someone who goes to the Marin market has seen these things and knows how to cook them. If not. I'll ask the mushroom guy next time I'm there. Really pretty mushrooms.

BTW, for any farmer's market that you see Captain Mike's Holy Smoke, he has a limited run of some wild salmon he caught on a fishing trip. Not as sweet as his usual product and there was only 50 pounds of it to start with. If you are interested ask him about it soon.

I tried looking white trumpet mushrooms up on the web and came up with very little. However, I think I came across a mushroom site that sells 'magic mushrooms' so to speak. It was a very cryptic site, you had to be 21 to enter, while they were 100% legal to purchase, if you didn't want to leave a paper trail, order through the mail. It's surprising how many 'magic mushroom' varieties there were (about 200). I may be incorrect about this site, but somehow the fact you could buy syringes made me suspicious. But maybe that's just a part of the mushroom growing industry. Have no clue how it works. Nice mushroom pictures. Sorry folks, I forgot the link. You'll have to google on your own if you are interested.
