Westcoaster heading East? Don't

I can only speak from my own personal experience but, if you love good food and can afford to stay on the WestCoast, do. As economic refugees, driven out of BC by housing/mortgage rates coupled with insecure and exorbitant rental rates we felt we had no choice but to move east. With news reports of racial profiling in NS and rising sea levels threatening low-lying areas like PEI we felt we had no choice but to move to NB. I had been warned that NB was a food desert but read a few good restaurant reviews online and so thought, well, things must have improved. How wrong I was. (Or what do those reviewers consider "good"?) New Brunswick, or what I have seen of Moncton and Shediac in the last two months is a real food desert. Yes, you can get a few ingredients and cook decent food at home, thank heavens, even if you have to order some of the ingredients online (like trasi, etc) but the restaurant scene here seems to be horrible. Bland, overcooked, tasteless, soggy, overpriced, dry, freezer burned food and even one incredibly rude owner the like of which I have never before experienced. And that includes those establishments that say they "pride" themselves on showcasing the local seafood, including lobster. In our two months here we have not, of course, sampled every single restaurant - it seems a fair number close down after the Sept holiday too, and I would love to be proved wrong, but as of now, I can honestly say I got a much, much better quality meal at my local Pho restaurant 45 mins east of Vancouver than I have had here at any restaurant.
