I'm typing this from my room in the Mohonk Mountain House. Guess what I had for an appetizer at dinner tonight?
"Tapas." I kid you not. A white bean empanada and an ostrich and provolone sausage in a couple of sauces of different colors. The sauces were presumably made from ingredients, but I prefer to call them "green" and "brown."
Feldman, how could you order this when there were much safer choices? Sorry, I just couldn't resist. But two things still shine - the iced tea and the cookies that are served in the afternoon.
Mohonk's food keeps getting fancier and fancier but the institution subsumes whoever cooks here. Everything gets blanded out. Still, the House and the surroundings are magnificent, and I'm thrilled to be here.
