Need help with a weekend trip to Queens

JBJM | Nov 26, 2005 10:48 AM

We lived in Queens several years ago and are returning for a weekend visit strictly to indulge in some of the excellent chow we miss so much. We'll have 3 dinners, 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts (or possibly 1 brunch and 1 dim sum).

Sunday dinner is the only fixed time slot. We'll be going to Ihawan because we're bringing a cooler to stock up on our favorite Filipino foods before our drive home. At some point we'd also like to hit Jackson Diner. Is that still good? Also, help me out here, there was an unbelievable Thai restaurant around 37th and Roosevelt? Maybe it starts with an S. I've not had anything like it before or since.

So that is only 3 restaurants out of a possible 5 or 7 depending on your recommendations. We are not tied to certain cuisines but we lean toward Asian (save Vietnamese or Japanese as we have a glut of both at home), Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European.
TIA for all suggestions. We can't wait!

p.s. - If you have suggestions about dishes, please let me know.
p.p.s. Suggestions for bakeries, not necessarily for chow that weekend but for take home fare) are also welcome.
