Weekend notes & A Tale of Two Sandwiches

First, yesterday I finally made it to Super 88 in Allston. It was definitely a new experience from me - the 30 minutes I spent there didn't even touch the tip of the iceberg - I'd need a week and a translator to get the full benefit of that place. I did speak to the seafood counter people - fresh, live blue crabs arrive Thursdays, gone shortly thereafter. I foresee a crab soup next week.

Second, noticed a new (to me) Latin American restaurant (or two actually) on Brighton Ave. The newer one is located on the Harpers Ferry side. I stopped in, noticed the Anna's style of burrito fixins and opted to wait for what I wanted later (below). Similarly I noticed that the Pizza Ring store near the Model also advertised a Latin American deli and food made to order. Has anyone been to either?

Is any sandwich worth $11 takeout? I would wholeheartedly agree with the board that the Cuban from Chez Henri is worth that and more. Excellent mixed green salad with perfect amount of unobtrusive light tasting dressing. Accompanying the sandwich was a fair helping of plantain chips - very subtle in flavor, almost to a bland stage but surprisingly appetizing with the rest of the order. The sandwich. Oh the sandwich. Pressed French bread, somewhat minced pork and ham, some unidentified slightly spicy peppers, and the rest was just delicious heaven. I laughed, I cried, I ate it all.

By comparison, today I stopped by Arsenal Mall to try a bite at Supreme Sandwich. I ordered the turkey & avocado on foccacia - Sliced roasted turkey breast with cilantro/avocado, cheddar cheese, sprouts, and tomato, on rosemary foccacia bread (desc. from their website below). The foccacia tasted plain. But other than that, I thought the sandwich and fresh fried chips were pretty darn good. $7.50 good? Perhaps. The cilantro was not evident, but the turkey was thick and the avocado plentiful w/o being over-powering. A bit on the dry side as they eschew mayo, but overall a good experience. Not a Chez Henri Cuban, but pretty good in it's own right.
