Restaurants & Bars 1

Last week in Paris

After spending several days scanning posts, I went to Paris for a week with a long list of places. Food was not my first interest, but I did manage to hit a few places I had found with very good results.
I was in the fifth on the Rue Monge, so many of my commnets will be influenced by geography.

Bakeries: Many disappointed, but-
Joel Kaiser on the Rue Monge lived up to all of its reputation for fresh baguettes.

Gerard Mulot on the rue Seine is superb for croissants and macaroons to die for.

There is also a fromagerie on the rue Monge by rue Rollin that is superb and you can smell it a block away.

There is a tiny wine store Delices Daubento on the back of a triangular block where the main street is the Rue Monge (about #100). This guy hand picks his bottles and has a good palate. 4 for 4 based on what I bought and tasted and nothing above 10 Euros.

Wine Bars -

La Nouvelle Marie on rue Fosse St. Jacques was wonderful. Good wine selection and food just the kind you'd expect - tasted great but don't tell your cardiologist you ate there. Tried and failed to find Le Coud Fou in the Marais and Willi's.

Restaurants and Bistros:
Restaurant Perraudin - Rue St. Jacques - superb bistro food, very french, snails, beef bourginon, salmon, and gigot with creamy potatoes au gratin. Perfideroles - superb. Not a tourist in sight.

Relais de l'Entrecote on rue St. Benoit and another on rue Marbeuf. This place is upscale and has one menu item - steak and frites. However, they do both very well. Many tourists join Parisians.

Chez Maitre Paul - 12 rue Monsieur Le Prince- food from the Jura. Excellent chicken with morelle mushrooms - a dish recommended by P. Wells. Coq au vin was not as good, but presentable. Wines from Loire, pretty good for house stuff.

One bust recommended on this site: La Truffiere on rue Blainville- This place was right around the corner from my daughter's so I tried their lunch as the dinner was over 70 euros. I was very disappointed. The salad was bland and the fish blander -accompanied by a vegetable egg roll. These guys give great service and have a tiny charming place, but the food quality was poor.
