A week of glorious food and a great 40th b'day in NOLA thanks to all of your suggestions!.......

first of all, I just got home and wanted to post while this is all fresh in my memory, hold onto your seats!......the first thing we did when we got into town was hit Ugleisches ...very good but it was not as stellar as I thought from all the raves.....I'm not giving a rant but compared to the other places we hit later in the week it was lower on the list. The best thing we had there was that coleslaw, lol!!! Everything else was delicious but a little pricey for the amount and I am not one of those people who judge food by the amount..I'd rather have 2 bites of perfection than 10 bites of something so-so. nuff said. Dinner was at Rita's...very nice stuffed catfish and great bread pudding...cozy and a bit dive-ish but the food was pretty good. My BF got a sampler plate that wasn't that great but the ribs were really great and the stuffed fish was very good. Next day, we hit Johnny's for po-boy since we had planned on going to the napolean house for muffalatta's but they were closed and J's was nearby and we were in a hurry. My BF had a ball with that Oyster po-boy, it was delicious and a high point for him. That night we went to Delmonico's for my B'day and we had a fantastic time. The food was delicious, the service fantastic...I could not have had a better B'day anywhere. Wednesday, we had dinner at Brightsens, the seafood platter was amazing!! The duck was delicious....IMO, if I could have the hickory smoked duck from Delmonicos with the crispy skin from Brightsens, THAT would be duck perfection! Service at Brightsens was wonderful, very warm and personal. Thursday lunch at Mr. B's. Oh. my. God. The BBQ shrimp was amazing. Just stellar. That is all on that, I'm speechless there. Dinner was at Upperline...lovely, personal service, delicious food...very happy with it. Friday lunch was at Napolean house to try the muffalatta...meh, olive salad just shouldn't be hot IMO. It was O.K. but I wouldn't order it again. Dinner was at Irenes where the crabcakes were a religious experience.The best I have ever had anywhere hands down. Huge, all crab, hardly any bread, fresh, wonderful, I would go to this place once a week if I could and if anyone out there has an "in" and can pilfer the cheesecake recipe for me I will bake you one and send it to you!!!Our waiter wasn't too helpful with my request for it. It was the best cheesecake I ever had and I am a former pastry chef. The Crabcakes and the cheesecake were specials that nite, BTW,the crab is usually a fri nite special accding to our waiter. Today, we went to Fiorella's for lunch and had fried chicken. Absolutely delicious!! My last gorge was a Muffalatta from central grocery on the plane which was head and shoulders above the other one we tried. We also did a praline taste test and asked opinions and creole delicacies came in at the top for pralines and I would have to agree. I like creamy as opposed to grainy so they were my praline of choice. We also hot some wonderful spots for music....Donnas on monday, Maple leaf on tuesday, the rock and bowl on thursday where we had a blast bowling and dancing and then Jeremy Davenport at the ritz last night. Did a museum, 2 tours......whew!!! And can you believe I did not gain a single pound???????? I ate like an animal! Thank you all for all your posts and this lovely forum!! I owe a lot to all of you for your wonderful advice!!! Thanks from the bottom of my heart! Me 40?? No way!
