WARNING: Do not buy Chinese crayfish

MrFerociousDinosaur | Aug 2, 201804:54 PM     3

I would like to warn all the crayfish eaters of Chowhound that it is a very bad idea to purchase Chinese crayfish. I have a very good freezer and have frozen both Chinese crayfish and wild Ontario crayfish from live. The Ontario crayfish came out absolutely perfect, as if they had been caught the same day. The Chinese crayfish were a whole other matter. They weren't rotten, but smelly, and the meat was mushy. Fortunately, my 6 clown loaches (aquarium fish) ate them up, but I do not recommend purchasing Chinese crayfish. The one exception is IKEA's KRÄFTOR precooked crayfish in dill brine, which are from China. They are fairly good, being comparable to wild Ontario crayfish. So unless they're from IKEA, don't buy Chinese crayfish.
