Waffles in Marin?

Sharuf | Jun 21, 200410:31 AM

In my sporadic search for a good waffle in Marin, I stopped by Willie's by the Woodlands Market on College near the College of Marin.

The menu listed three kinds of pancakes: buttermilk, corn, and whole wheat. For waffles they also listed buttermilk, corn, and whole wheat -- not a good sign!
Anyway, I ordered the buttermilk, hoping it would meet the benchmark standard set by my mom's BM waffles.

The waffle was about a B-. It had a limp wimpiness to it -- not crispy at all. I concluded that they just poured some pancake batter into the waffle iron. That seems to be almost a universal offense at cafes these days. I've had waffles at IHOP and Denny's that also tasted like the illigitimate offspring of pancake batter. At the opposite extreme, I once had a waffle at Dipsea That I needed a steak knife to cut into.

Anybody know of a place in Marin that takes waffles seriously enough to make good ones?
