Wa Jeal, Manhattan, took care of our crowd...

We like to gather for special occasions, and it is often easier to meet in Manhattan given our family spread. This time, for a belated Mother's Day, Chinese/Asian was in the air, so we reserved a banquet table at Wa Jeal Sichuan Chili House on 2nd Ave. around 82nd St. They were ready for us when our party of 6 arrived and our amiable waitress took our orders. We loaded up the table with waves of Veggie Spring Rolls, Shrimp Toast, Spicy Sesame Noodles, Steamed Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, Singapore Rice Noodles with curry sauce, Stir-Fried String Beans, and Crispy Chicken with spicy garlic sauce. Sorry if I left something out, but we certainly feasted as we chatted away. My granddaughter was pleased with the special attention she received. Best of all, the Moms at the table were happy!
Most of the dishes were good, some quite spicy which was fine, except for the dumplings. They were ok, but I found them to be a bit mushy. Otherwise, Wa Jeal does a very decent, friendly job on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. www.wajealrestaurant.com
