Vote on Two Birthday options!

adam | Oct 15, 2003 06:37 PM

my current two options for my boyfriend's birthday this Friday are as follows; I'd love your advise:

The Plan

12:30 pm -- $20 prix-fix lunch special at Montrachet

4:30 pm -- workout at Crunch to burn off lunch calories and get us ready for more eating

6:00 pm -- half bottle of 1995 Veuve Cliquot (or anything better I can find at the half bottle level) and some foie gras on toasted brioche with a few leaves of mache at my apartment. Open gifts.

6:30 -- quick sex since we'll be too drunk for it later; dress in our Gucci best

7:00 pm -- cab ride; drinks at Angel's Share (which does NOT carry Sapporo brand tonic water even though Sunrise told me they did -- I must find it, it is the best tonic water on earth)

Option 1

8:30 pm -- cab ride and drinks at Capitale

9:00 pm -- dinner at Capitale

11:00 pm -- trip to Galapagos bar in Williamsburg to meet friends and drink till we die

Option 2

9:00 pm -- sit at bar at 71 Clinton, order wine and appetizers (which, I remember, were the best part of dinner here--great wine-by-the-glass selection)

10:00 pm -- entrees and dessert at WD-50

11:30 pm --late trip to Galapagos

Personally I'd opt for the latter -- it would let us compare the cuisines of 71 Clinton with WD 50. But it *IS* on the late side, which might annoy the birthday boy, and I'm sure he'll be wowed by the room at Capitale. Can't make it earlier: I already have 'vations for 9pm at capitale and 10pm at wd-50.

I'd welcome any and all opinions, keeping in mind that

A) we won't travel north of 14th Street
B) it's really too late to make reservations before 10pm anywhere
C) the "scene" is important, but we're in our mid 20s, so not looking for suits/blonds etc.
D) we love good food but the bf DID make me cancel reservations at Daniel, so obviously the food isn't the only important thing
E) we've to get to Williamsburg before midnight (or we'll turn into butternut squashes)
