Hard to believe, but it's been over eight years since my wife and I have been to your fair city, and to rectify that we are planning a week in SF in May.
Naturally, we turn to your, our fellow Chowhounds, to offer us suggestions and guidance on how to best sample San Francisco and its fine restaurants. We're not going to rent a car, but we are Zipcar members, so if we need wheels for a day or two we should be able to get them on short notice. We'll be staying in or around the downtown area and generally depending on public transportation.
We're particularly interested in Chinese food recommendations, Chinatown or otherwise. We're long time veterans of New York's Chinatowns, both the traditional one in lower Manhattan and the newer one in Brooklyn (which is where we live), and we'd like to compare some good SF Chinese restaurants to the places we like in NYC.
We will be celebrating our 30th anniversary during our trip, so we'd also very much appreciate suggestions on an appropriate spot for that. We've only gotten as far as thinking The Top Of The Mark for a drink to start (or maybe to finish) the evening.
We've been to SF a lot over the years, so we know the geography and the major tourist sites pretty well, but we figure a lot has changed in eight years, so we're hoping for a solid SF experience.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions...
